5 FUN THINGS TO DO AFTER MOVING TO FORT MYERS FLORIDA

Many retiring and downsizing baby boomers are choosing to move from the Midwest and New England to Ft. Myers, FL. With a year around average temperature of about 80 degrees, there are a lot of outdoor activities to choose from, after moving to Ft. Myers. Here are 5 fun things to do after moving to Ft. Myers.

There are several teams from the North who have spring training games in Ft. Myers and the surrounding areas. Going to spring training games is fun because often you get to meet the players and the new prospects who are trying out for the team. The teams in the area who have spring training are the Red Sox, Minnesota Twins, Pittsburg Pirates, and the Philadelphia Phillies. There’s nothing quite like relaxing in the warm spring sun, watching your favorite team prepare for the up-coming baseball season.

Moving to Ft Myers, you will discover that there are plenty of beaches which are fun for the entire family to enjoy. Whether you enjoy shelling, fishing, swimming or just taking a relaxing stroll in the afternoon sunshine, Ft. Myers beaches has it all. There are even more beaches along Sanibel and Captiva that are fun to visit, when you move to Ft Myers.

Long-time friends and innovators, Henry Ford and Thomas Edison, had winter estates which were across the street from each other. When moving to Ft Myers it is a lot of fun to spend a day just strolling through the many gardens and vintage laboratories that these two iconic Americans shared. And, don’t forget to visit America’s largest tree, a hundred plus year old Banyan tree which was brought to Ft Myers by Henry Ford. It spans almost an entire acre with its’ hanging “root branches”.

After you move to Ft Myers you will find that attending the many events that surround the annual Edison Festival of Lights a fun thing for the entire family. Each year the City of Fort Myers holds a week-long celebration of the many innovations that Thomas Edison brought to us. The final day of events is finished off with a world class 5K road race, featuring the fastest runners in the world and, it is followed by one of America’s largest night time parades. Hundred of floats all lit with bright lights are paraded through the downtown streets and, because of the large number of spectators assembled for the road race, there are over 250,000 viewers of this spectacular show of lights. After moving to Ft Myers and claiming residency in Florida, you will find that registering your vehicles and recreational toys that you own will save hundreds or even thousands of dollars per year. It may not seem like a “fun” thing to do in Ft Myers but, I cannot think of anything that is much more “fun” than saving lots of money!
