In a move to achieve carbon neutrality by the year 2050, French President Francois Hollande has pledged to shut down all coal burning power plants by 2023. France has beat many of the world's countries to the punch by utilizing nuclear fission as a power source for more than 75% of the country's power. (Making around $2.5 billion dollars by selling excess energy to neighboring countries hasn't hurt things for France either!) The entirety of the United Kingdom has pledged to wipe out coal power altogether by the year 2025 and Germany is planning to cut all of its greenhouse by up to 95% by 2050. Some other countries that have taken huge steps to move away from the use of fossil fuels are Costa Rica, Denmark, Scotland, Sweden and Finland.
