When a downsizing baby boomer decides to sell their large home and move to Florida often they will need to use a certified packing and crating company to assist in preparing their fine art, antiques and heirlooms for the long journey South. Failure to use a certified packing and crating company often results in irreparable damage to their precious collections. Here are some things to look for when considering a certified packing and crating company.

Since there are over 77 million baby boomers downsizing all at once, there is a tremendous demand for packing, crating and moving services. Many “start-up” companies who are meeting this sudden surge have little or no experience with high end furnishings.  Always chose a company with years of experience to avoid having inexperienced movers packing and crating your priceless possessions. The internet is a good way to check reviews and see what other homeowners’ experiences have been with any particular company. It is generally good to ignore the first page of “fake” reviews which basically say all the same things, “The movers were great…showed up on time…were very nice…price was great”. The real reviews will be in the second and third page of the review lists.

Certified packing and crating requires specialized training. Look for companies who have invested in having professionals training their staff for specialized packing and crating. The William C Huff Companies invested over $15,000 for training from Merv Richard who is the Chief Conservator at the National Gallery of Art. In a 4 day hands on training seminar the entire staff was trained by one of the foremost experts in certified packing and crating.

The expression “There is no substitution for experience” is no more true than when it comes to certified packing and crating. Asking your potential moving company about the average years’ experience of their crew members is something that many homeowners are hesitant to do. However, by simply asking this question the homeowner will get a sense of who will be showing up to pack and crate their belongings. The William C Huff Companies have many staff member who have more than 10 years’ experience within the company, packing and crating.

William C. Huff Companies is committed to simplifying the complicated maze of moving and storing your priceless possessions. With over 40 full-time, tenured, and highly trained staff, you can be assured that your move will be handled smoothly and professionally, from the first phone call until the last box is unpacked.
