MORE REASONS TO MOVE TO FLORIDA!

We've talked in the past about some of the reasons why you might consider moving to Florida. Today we'll go over a few more known and less well-known reasons! We can't start this topic without first talking about the weather. If you've been in Florida for more than just a few days, you likely already know why most of us love Florida weather: It's warm hot and sunny with an occasional afternoon sprinkle deluge that's cools us off before everything dries out again the humidity threatens to stop us all in our tracks. All kidding aside, Florida weather tends to be pretty wonderful, particularly southern Florida weather. I'm from a northern climate with plenty of cool and downright cold weather. I was more than ready to leave the cold, dreary winters for more year round comfort. As I type this, I'm sitting at my desk in jeans and a sweatshirt because we're at the time of year in Florida where we experience three seasons of temperatures by three in the afternoon. Yesterday at 6:00 am it was 54 degrees and it climbed up to the mid 80's by the afternoon. I think it's safe to say that most Florida residents enjoy the swings though. It's like our own fall-into-winter-into-spring transition every day for a month and a half! Key West. The southernmost part of the United States is well, right at the southernmost part of the state. It's as close as just a few hours away or a full days drive from the more northern parts of the state, but holy cow is Key West wonderful! The historic elements alone warrant a vist: Ponce de Leon first visited in 1521, Ernest Hemingway maintained a residence there in the 1930s and of course, Key West's declared independence and formation of the Conch Republic in 1982. Disney World. Need I say more? I thought not, but I will anyway. Mickey Mouse, am I right?!? Quite possibly the world's most loved vermin! Mission Space, Big Thunder Mountain, Expedition Everest; all incredibly fun rides! Epcot's Food and Wine Festival is a great time as well, as is the myriad of attractions and activities. Truly fun for the whole family! Cape Canaveral. This is where people and space craft are launched away from the earth and into space at 17,500 miles an hour. (Think about that for a second: The fastest non-production vehicle in the world is the Thrust SSC. It reached a blistering 763 MPH in 1997. That's REALLY fast, no? The space shuttle is TWENTY THREE times faster. Madness!) The historical significance of Cape Canaveral is massive, and many areas are available to be visited by the public. The Beach. It is my opinion that a trip to Florida without at least a quick trip to the beach isn't a complete visit. Even if you just stop by to dip your toes in the surf, you owe it to yourself to get to the beach. Florida offers over 800 miles of beaches of all types. White sands, shell packed beaches and mangrove islands offer all sorts of varieties to suit every taste. Whether you're looking to surf on the east coast, skim board on the west coast, go lobstering in Key West or fish from the pier in virtually any city, it's a guarantee that there's a beach in Florida that's perfectly suited for you. Publix. Publix "Pub Subs," specifically. If you've had one, you know what I'm talking about. If you haven't, you owe it to yourself to get one on the double quick. (For the uninitiated, Publix is a large grocery store chain, not unlike Krogers, Albertsons, Jewel-Osco or the old Farmer Jack's.) Like many other grocery stores, Publix stores have quite respectable delis. Publix, however, offers both pre-made and custom made-while-you-wait subs that are delicious. DELICIOUS, I tell you. (And you can order online and pick it up at a predetermined time too. Bonus.) Have we captured your imagination enough that you're ready to pack up and move to Florida yet?
